Republic of Ireland vs Hungary Match Overview – 06.09.2025
It’s time for Republic of Ireland and Hungary to kick off their World Cup qualifying campaigns. These two teams will face each other at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Saturday. And both of them would like to start with a win. Let’s preview it in our over/under soccer predictions for major leagues.
The Irish side, still coached by the Icelandic manager Heimir Hallgrimsson, are hungry to reach the World Cup again, but it’s not the easiest group for them – Portugal are favourites for the first place.
The Hungarians on the other side saw improvement in their levels in the last decade. One of the main reasons for that is the work of the Italian manager Marco Rossi – a man who’s coaching the Magyars since 2018.
Republic of Ireland News & Analysis
Heimir Hallgrimsson called the best players he currently have for the upcoming games against Hungary and Armenia. Wolves’ Matt Doherty is the most experienced player in the squad with 52 international appearances while Burnley’s Josh Cullen, Brentford’s Nathan Collins and Bristol City’s Jason Knight bring some quality to the team as well.
Arguably Ireland’s big star at the moment is the striker Evan Ferguson, though. Just 20-years of age, Ferguson is currently playing for the Serie A giants AS Roma. If Ferguson shows his true qualities, he could bring a lot of problems to the Hungarian defence.
In terms of current form, Ireland didn’t win its last two friendlies against Senegal and Luxembourg. Of course, that’s not a big deal – it’s more important what they do in the official matches.
Hungary News & Analysis
Hungary are trying to qualify for the World Cup for a first time since 1986. Surely that’s a long time since the Magyars participated at the biggest football competition in the world. Marco Rossi already qualified Hungary twice for the European Championship, but the World Cup remains the dream.
There are some pretty good players in Hungary’s squad for the upcoming games against Republic of Ireland and Portugal. We could easily highlight the presence of Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai – the team’s biggest star. But don’t underestimate the qualities of other players as well – Galatasaray’s Roland Sallai, Liverpool’s Milos Kerkez, RB Leipzig’s Willi Orban and West Bromwich Albion’s Callum Styles.
Republic of Ireland vs Hungary Betting Predictions
Despite having the home ground advantage, Ireland shall not expect an easy game against Hungary. On the contrary – it will be pretty tough for the Irish side.
